Local 832 Scholarships

UFCW Local 832 scholarships are available from March 1 to June 30 annually

Over 60 scholarships, worth a total of more than $30,000 are awarded each year to members of UFCW Local 832. These scholarships are funded through the UFCW Education and Training Trust Fund which is comprised of employer contributions negotiated in collective bargaining.

In addition to 60 General Scholarships of $500 each, there are three $1,500 awards:

• $1,500 for a member working at Maple Leaf
• $1,500 for a member working at Safeway
• $1,500 for a member working at Westfair

To be eligible for Local 832 scholarships applicants must:

• Be members in good standing for one year (from August 1st annually)
• Work for an employer contributing to the Education and Training Trust Fund (click here for a list of contributing employers)
• Be attending or planning to attend a recognized post-secondary institution on a part-time or full-time basis
• Not have previously won a Local 832 scholarship

Printed applications will be available at Local 832 union offices, the Training Centre at 880 Portage at Arlington, or from full-time union representatives. Provision is also made for members to submit their applications directly through this web site, or download and print a copy of the application and submit it by mail or in person.

All applicants are notified by mail of the results of their application in July. The scholarship awards ceremonies are held each year in August.

National Council Scholarships

UFCW Canada annually offers five $1,000 Beggs-Dowling-Mathieu Scholarships in Western Canada. These scholarships are available to active UFCW members and their family members. Applicants must be attending a recognized post-secondary institution on a full-time basis. The deadline for receipt of applications and all required material is September 30 of each year. $8,000 UFCW International Scholarship

The eligibility rules and application are available online at UFCW International Scholarship from January 16–April 16, 2012.

UFCW International annually offers a scholarship of up to $8,000 to two UFCW Canada members and their unmarried children or dependents. Scholarship recipients will receive annual payments of $2,000 for each year they are enrolled in an accredited college or university as a non-probationary student for up to four years.

The 2012 International Scholarship deadline is April 16, 2012. Only Scholarship recipients will be notified via mail by Monday, July 16, 2012. Recipients’ names will be posted on the UFCW Website.  E-mail scholarship@ufcw.org with questions.
