Northern Manitoba Members

  Amanda Macdonald with Blair Hudson

In Northern Manitoba, through our Thompson office, we offer members classes at varying times and locations. Shop Steward and Health & Safety courses are scheduled based on need. Other courses, like first aid or computers, are scheduled based on member requests.

Training takes place at the UFCW office in Thompson and at other locations throughout the North. Courses are located in the community where the course is requested.

Stewards learn to “Sign It and Date It” at Note Taking Workshop

On June 7 & 8 we ran the Note Taking workshop in Thompson. This course is intended to be learner-centred and activity-based so that stewards get lots of note taking practice as well as lots of discussion time. The group worked on many exercises that challenged their current note taking capabilities along with learning tips to make note taking easier and faster without losing the meaning. If they learned anything, it was to “Sign It and Date It”.

We will be in Thompson again on Nov. 2 & 3 for another Shop Steward workshop – Aboriginal Awareness.

For Health and Safety Committee members we are offering WHMIS on Oct. 25 and Violence/Stress on Oct. 26 & 27. Both of these will run in Dauphin.

If you are interested in taking a course or for more information, please call your Union Rep, Blair Hudson at 778-7108 or toll free at 1-800-290-2608.
