RE: Selection of the Bargaining Committee for the 2018 UFCW Local 832 & Loblaw Negotiations

Dear Member,

Negotiations for the renewal of your contract with all Loblaw banners in Manitoba including Superstore, Extra Foods, and No Frills will take place this year. Your contract expires on September 27, 2018, and, as we have done in the past, we intend to complete bargaining by no later than that date.

Loblaw bargaining begins

June 2, 2018

Since the start of this year Local 832, has been busy with preparations for bargaining, with Loblaw, between member forums, Steward meetings and a town hall, UFCW has been listening to member's concerns and has been reviewing bargaining proposals.

Yesterday, May 31, the UFCW bargaining committee, led by President Jeff Traeger and Secretary-Treasurer Bea Bruske sat down with the employers to discuss the first rounds of bargaining.

Loblaw workers in Manitoba ratify new deal.

October 20, 2013

On October 20, 2013 at voting locations across Manitoba, UFCW Local 832 members working at Superstore and Extra Food locations throughout the province ratified a new five-year deal by 91.4 per cent.
The members have been waiting anxiously to hear the details of their tentative agreement that was reached on September 26. In order to assist UFCW locals in Alberta and Saskatchewan who were bargaining with Loblaw as well, Local 832 waiting until those provinces reached a tentative deal, and have since ratified.

Westfair members who are top-rate and overscale pay problems.

October 16, 2009
Corrections will be made on next pay day. Members working at Westfair in Manitoba who are top-rate and overscale were to receive a 40 cent an hour wage increase effective September 27. On your last pay stub you will notice that you only received a 20 cent an hour increase. The union contact the company and they have assured us that those who were short changed will see the correction on their next pay. Should you not recieve this please contact your union representative.

Westfair members Declarations of Availability – Restrict by November 1.

A reminder that if you wish to change from available anytime to restricted for the remainder of 2009 or if you wish to further restrict your availability, you must do so by November 8, 2009.  This means that any changes to your Declarations of Availability (DOA) must be submitted to the company by Sunday November 1, 2009 to be valid. DOA forms are available at your store from your supervisor or store manager.  If you can not get one from your store, please call your full time Union Representative.

Westfair merges two departments into one.

August 21, 2009
Beauty and Tolietries will become one department, no layoffs will occur. On Friday August 21, 2009 the union received a phone call from Westfair head office.

Safety Shoe discount for Westfair members.

July 14, 2009
Members must be in compliance for safety shoe policy by August 9. A letter was sent out in June outlining the new safety shoe policy for Westfair members. A notice was also sent out that members must have the proper footwear by August 9, 2009. The company has negotiated a discount for members at Mark's Work Wearhouse in Manitoba giving members a 10% discount.

Three days of negotiations concluded

January 13, 2009
After the union and the company met briefly on December 3 to exchange proposals , negotiations resumed on January 7 and 8. The current collective agreement is set to expire on March 14. Negotiations got off to a slow start with a few minor items being agreed to, although the tone at the table has been respectful. UFCW Local 832 President Robert Ziegler is hopeful that the tempo of these negotiations will pick up as there is a lot of ground to cover towards reaching a new agreement.

Westfair members in Manitoba ratify new five-year collective agreement.

On October 5 members working at Superstore and Extra Foods grocery stores in Manitoba ratified a new five-year collective agreement by 76%. After round-the-clock bargaining the agreement was reached early Saturday, September 27. Local 832 was the first of the three western provinces to reach a settlement. UFCW Local 1400 and 401 also averted a strike, as both locals recently reached tentative agreements. On August 24, the members voted 98% in favour of strike action.

Shuttle service provided for Westfair ratification vote

Shuttle buses to and from the Transcona Country Club will be available for the Sunday, October 5 ratification vote. The departing times and locations are as follows: 1. UFCW Office (1412 Portage Avenue) 6:00p.m. and 6:15p.m. 2. Superstore 1505 parking lot(2132 McPhillips at Stardust) 6:00p.m. 3. Superstore 1514 parking lot (215 St. Anne's at Fermor) 6:15p.m. 4.
