Negotiations progressing slowly.

March 3, 2009
After two full days of bargaining, lead negotiator and UFCW Local 832 President Robert Ziegler was glad to see some movement in the latest round of negotiations. "It's slow going still, but we have made some progress on minor issues. Major items such as wages & pension have yet to be addressed," stated Ziegler. Currently the plan is to keep bargaining through the upcoming weekend in hopes of addressing the major items to avoid a strike. The union is available to bargain around the clock to seek an agreement.

After two more days of negotiations it’s time to send Safeway a wake-up call.

February 10, 2009
On February 9 and 10 your negotiating committee met with the company in hopes of moving towards securing a new collective agreement for the members at Safeway. The company seems to be only concerned with their proposals and they continue to avoid the proposals that you want addressed. “I was optimistic when Safeway officials asked us if we would like to start negotiating early, that it was a good sign.

Safeway negotiations still moving… slowly.

January 23, 2009
Your Safeway bargaining committee and the company met for two days of negotiating on January 21 and 22. The tone of the negotiations remains respectful however the union is growing tired of the lack of progress. “This is still in the beginning of negotiations and it’s usually the most painful part. The company has been focused a little too much on addressing their proposals and haven’t been hearing what our members need,” stated UFCW Local 832 President Robert Ziegler. Bargaining resumes on February 9 and 10 and both sides are trying to free up more dates for February.
