Maple Leaf Foods Announces Pay Premiums

March 23, 2020

Earlier today, Maple Leaf Foods announced a $80 / week premium. This pay increase is coming after discussions with the Union and is in line with what employers in retail are starting to do.

“Workers at Maple Leaf and other food production facilities are on the frontlines,” said Jeff Traeger, President of UFCW Local 832. “We are glad to see employers recognizing the stress that members are facing.”


Sobeys announces Hero Pay Package

Sobeys West Inc. has announced their Hero Pay Package today to acknowledge the vital role that our members are playing in this pandemic.

Sobeys financial package includes the following premiums for our members (including the Retail Support Centre):

  • $50 / week premium on top of hours worked
  • Additional $2 / hour for members who work more than 20 hours per week.

 

The pay will be retroactive to March 8 and will continue until the end of April.

While Manitobans are facing the constantly changing realities of Covid-19, our members are working incredibly hard to adapt to this new reality and to meet this challenge head-on.

On Thursday, March 19, I reached out to Manitoba Premier Brian Pallister, calling for emergency actions and immediate considerations for workers on the front lines in food production, food distribution, warehousing, grocery stores, security, personal care, and assisted living.


BREAKING: $2/hour pay increase for members at Loblaw

March 21, 2020

To appreciate the incredible work that our members are doing on the front line at this time, Loblaw has announced that their employees will be receiving a $2/ hour pay increase.

The pay will be retroactive to March 8 and will continue until the end of April and will be reassessed at that time.


UFCW 832 Calls on MB Government to Increase Protections for Workers

Today, UFCW 832 sent a letter to the Premier of Manitoba, the Minister of Economic Development and Training, the Leader of the Official Opposition, and the Leader of the Manitoba Liberal Party, calling for emergency actions and considerations for workers in food production, food distribution warehousing, grocery stores, security, personal care, and assisted living workers.
