Local 832 Scholarships for Members

UFCW Local 832 scholarships are available from February 1 to May 31 annually
Up to $33,000 in scholarships are awarded each year to members of UFCW Local 832. These 26 scholarships are funded through the UFCW Education and Training Trust Fund which is comprised of employer contributions negotiated in collective bargaining.

 

SCHOLARSHIP LIST

1. $2,000 WORKPLACE SPECIFIC SCHOLARSHIP
2. $1,000 GENERAL SCHOLARSHIP – Open to Dependent children
3. $1,000 WESTMAN ADULT GRADE 12 GRAD SCHOLARSHIP
4. $500 ADULT GRADE 12 GRAD SCHOLARSHIP

 

Local 832 scholarship applicants must:

  • Be members in good standing for one year (from July 1st annually)
  • Work for an employer contributing to the Education and Training Trust Fund (click here for a list of contributing employers)
  • Check the eligibility requirements for each of the scholarships

From February to May you can apply online or copies will be available at Local 832 union offices, at the UFCW Local 832 Training Centres in Brandon and Winnipeg.

All applicants are notified of the results of their application in June.
The scholarship awards are given out before August 1.

 

Scholarship conditions

The Director of Education & Training, UFCW Local 832, will select the successful applicants. This decision is final and binding and is not subject to appeal.

  • Recipient agrees to be present to receive award in person.
  • If the Diploma/Degree is not yet completed, recipient will make every attempt to graduate.
  • Recipient declares the information provided in the application is true.
  • Recipient will read and sign the Privacy Protection and Personal Information Consent.

 

Information about Scholarships 3. and 4.

NOTE: There is no application for these scholarships as recipients will be selected from students graduating from the Grade 12 Adult High School Diploma Programs in Winnipeg and Westman.

 

3. $1,000 Westman Grade 12 Grad Scholarship Eligibility Criteria

There is one scholarship of $1,000.

  1. Open only to members presently employed by a company that has agreed to make contributions to the Education and Training Trust Fund.
  2. Member must be graduating from Adult High School offered through ACC in the Westman region. This award will be presented at the ACC grad in Brandon.
  3. Member must be in good standing with UFCW Local 832 since July 1, 2016.
  4. Member may be eligible for other UFCW Local 832 scholarships.
  5. Member does not have to be attending post-secondary education.

 

4. $500 Adult Grade 12 Grad Scholarship Eligibility Criteria

There are two scholarships of $500 each for the Westman region and two scholarships of $500 each for the Winnipeg area (for a total of four).

  1. Open only to members presently employed by a company that has agreed to make contributions to the Education and Training Trust Fund.
  2. Member must be graduating from Adult High School offered through Assiniboine Community College (ACC) in the Westman region or through Manitoba Institute of Trades and Technology (MITT) in Winnipeg. These awards will be presented at the ACC grad in Brandon and the MITT grad in Winnipeg.
  3. Member must be in good standing with UFCW Local 832 since July 1, 2016.
  4. Member may be eligible for other UFCW Local 832 scholarships.
  5. Member does not have to be attending post-secondary education.

 


Former UFCW Local 1869 Members ONLY

With the recent merger of Local 1869 to Local 832 all members working at Diagnostic Services of Manitoba (St. Boniface Location), St. Boniface Hospital and WRHA Laundry Operations-Winnipeg Site can apply for these scholarships ONLY.

Scholarships awarded are five of $1500 and 15 of $500 for members, and two of $1500 and 10 of $500 for immediate family members. Scholarships are awarded according to seniority. The deadline for receipt of applications for the 2016/17 year is September 30, 2016. See full criteria below.

 

Education Assistance Funding (EAF) 
$5,000 per year is available to members through the Education Assistance Fund (EAF).Money awarded from this Fund is divided into two sessions - January 1 to June 30 and July 1 to December 31, with $2,500 allotted to each session. The $2,500 per session is divided among the number of applicants, up to the cost of the course to a maximum of $600 per applicant. The deadline for receipt of applications for the current session is June 30, 2016. See full criteria below.

OPEN TO ALL MEMBERS

National Council Scholarships

UFCW Canada annually offers 18 $1,000 Beggs-Dowling-Mathieu Scholarships.
These scholarships are available to active UFCW members and their family members. Applicants must be attending a recognized post-secondary institution on a full-time basis. The deadline for receipt of applications is September 30 of each year. You may view the rules and complete the application by clicking here.

 

$8,000 UFCW International Scholarship

The eligibility rules and application are available online at UFCW International Scholarship.

UFCW International annually offers a scholarship of up to $8,000 to one UFCW Canada member and their unmarried children or dependents. Scholarship recipients will receive an annual payment of $2,000 for each year they are enrolled in an accredited college or university as a non-probationary student for up to four years.

 

Manitoba Federation of Labour Scholarship

UFCW Local 832 members are encouraged to apply for The Al Cerilli Manitoba Federation of Labour Scholarship, a $500 award presented annually by the MFL Young Members Committee to a member of an MFL affiliated union enrolled in a continuing education or post-secondary program.

In selecting each year’s recipient, the MFL Young Members Committee looks for the applicant demonstrating the most significant record of activism in the labour movement and a commitment to continuing labour activism into the future.

The scholarship is named in honour of Al Cerilli, a long-time activist in the Manitoba labour movement.
