Tentative deal reached at Vision of Independence

August 15, 2011

Your bargaining committee (UFCW Local 832 negotiator, Susan Hart-Kulbaba, Vince Bell from Portage and Karen Woodiwiss from Winnipeg) was able to come to an agreement with the management committee earlier this week.

Now the tedious but necessary work begins, to craft the legal documents that will make up the tentative agreement. This process can take a little time but the employer and the union are committed to trying to do this as quickly as possible so that we have something solid to present to the membership.

There will be six meetings held for you to vote on the tentative deal. You only need to attend one of the meetings and we have tried to schedule them so that you can attend before you go to work or after your shift ends.  This is an important meeting for you to attend.  You need to have your say about the deal, hearing all the details and getting clarifications before you vote.  If the agreement does not receive a majority of votes there will be a strike vote held.  Any questions from the members will be asked and answered and everyone will have the same information to base their vote on.

The times for the meetings are as follows:

Winnipeg: Tuesday, September 6, 2011 Club Regent CanadInn, 1415 Regent Ave. West. 9:30 a.m. or 1 p.m. or 3:30 p.m.

Portage la Prairie: Wednesday, September 7, 2011 CanadInn Portage la Prairie, 2401 Saskatchewan Ave. West. 9:15 a.m. or 1:30 p.m. or 4:30 p.m.
