Negotiations stall at Fairmont, membership meeting set.

April 15, 2011
Your union negotiating committee met with the Fairmont negotiating committee on April 13 and 14, and to date the parties have had seven meetings. The union has made significant progress on the non-monetary items, and during the past two days of negotiations we started discussing the monetary proposals. Unfortunately the progress has now stalled due to the very minimal wage increases the employer is proposing. More specifically, the company has proposed a five year contract with only a small signing bonus instead of a wage increase in the first year of the contract, a small lump sum payment in the second year of the contract and minimal increases in a third, fourth and fifth year of the contract. Your union negotiating committee have indicated that this is not sufficient and theyare now requesting your input to prioritize the outstanding union proposals. We have scheduled a meeting as follows: Date:          Tuesday April 26th Time:          9:30 am or 5:30 pm Location:    UFCW Training Centre 880 Portage Ave Please make every effort to attend this important meeting. Should you have any questions, please contact UFCW Local 832 negotiator, Beatrice Bruske at 786-5055.
