UFCW Local 832 represents thousands of workers in Manitoba’s pork and beef industry, including employees at Maple Leaf Foods. We have the experience to negotiate good contracts and safer working conditions around the livestock industry.
UFCW Canada and Local 832 are leading the effort to improve agricultural workers’ rights across
Canada and in Manitoba. As of June 30, 2008, all agricultural workers in climate-controlled facilities
(e.g.: hog barn or greenhouse workers) will be covered by Manitoba’s Employment Standards Code. UFCW Local 832 has advocated for these changes for years.

UFCW Local 832 has already been certified by the Manitoba Labour Board to negotiate a collective agreement with a large employer in North America’s swine fertilization industry, PIC Canada. We are working to ensure that the gains go above and beyond the protections contained in the Employment Standards Code to include seniority rights, grievance procedures and improved safety in the barns.
