Susan Hart-Kulbaba rejoined the staff of UFCW Local 832 in September 2004. She had previously been an employee of Local 832 from 1980 to 1984 when she worked as a full-time union representative.
Prior to that, she had been a member of the union since 1973 when she was working part-time at Safeway. She became a very active, involved member – serving as a picket captain during the Safeway strike of 1978, then later as a shop steward at Safeway. Susan also served as a vice-president on Local 832′s Executive Board.
When she left Local 832 in 1984, it was to accept the position of executive secretary of the Manitoba Federation of Labour (MFL). In 1989, she was elected president of the MFL.
One of her accomplishments during her six years as president of the Federation was to assist in the establishment of the Crocus Investment Fund. She eventually stepped down as MFL president to work full-time for Crocus as their director of labour affairs.
Susan left Crocus in 2002 to return to working as a union staff representative with the Manitoba Government Employees Union. She remained in that position until she returned to the staff of UFCW Local 832.
